Frequently asked questions about OZONOS

Technology

WHAT ACTUALLY IS OZONE?

Ozone is a form of oxygen that contains three oxygen atoms, O3, instead of the normal two oxygen atoms, O2, like the oxygen in the atmosphere. Ozone is a harmless but very useful substance. It reacts with organic substances, oxidising (eliminating) annoying odours and bacteria. If ozone cannot find a substance with which it can react, after a short time it completely decomposes again into O2 (oxygen). OZONOS generates ozone through ultraviolet radiation, the same way it happens in nature. Our patented and TÜV- certified process replicates the natural formation of ozone in the ozone layer to eliminate odours, germs and viruses without leaving any residue.

HOW DOES OZONE CLEAN THE AIR?

The third oxygen atom of O3 is only weakly bonded to the other two. It can therefore easily separate from them to combine with other substances. This results in the oxidation (elimination) of odour-causing substances, germs, viruses, bacteria, mould spores and allergens.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE ELIMINATED PARTICLES, WHERE DO THEY GO AFTER THE O3 HAS DECOMPOSED?

All waste products decompose into dust or dissolve without leaving any residue. These are removed in households and businesses through regular cleaning.

WHERE CAN I FIND DETAILED SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION ON THE TECHNOLOGY

Dr Richard Brunauer published a Scientific Evaluation of the OZONOS technology in November 2019. These questions and answers provide comprehensive scientific background information and reasons why the OZONOS Aircleaner works and is safe for humans and animals.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OZONOS AND OZONE GENERATORS?

OZONOS differs significantly from so-called ozone generators. Ozone generators use very high voltages to generate ozone and/or ionized air by means of electrical discharges (corona discharges). The latter are also called ionizers in trade. The disadvantage: Coronary loads produce toxic nitrogen oxides (NOX) in normal indoor air – the main pollutant of summer smog and in indoor air absolutely undesirable. In addition, the amount of ozone produced is much higher than, for example, OZONOS at 2.5 mg/h (model OZONOS AC-I), which is usually more than 1,000 mg/h. The use of conventional ozone generators is only possible in a very controlled manner, from staying in the same room during cleaning is strongly discouraged. In contrast, OZONOS has been shown to be completely harmless to humans and animals and no harmful by-products are produced. For this he received TÜV certification and household appliance approval. The production of OZONOS Aircleaner is carried out in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 exclusively in Austria and is subject to strict controls. It is therefore not equivalent to harmful ozone generators.

Application

WHAT AFFECTS THE TIME REQUIRED TO STERILISE AN OBJECT / SPACE?

The time required to sterilise a given space or item depends on the temperature, humidity and concentration of reactive substances present. The time required and functionality are not dependent on room ventilation.

WHAT IS THE AIRFLOW RATE OF OZONOS? UP TO WHAT ROOM SIZE IS IT SUITABLE?

The OZONOS has an air flow rate of 55m3 per hour. The OZONOS can be used in rooms of up to 50m2 (at normal room height). The more central and higher the positioning, the more effective the OZONOS can work.

WHICH OZONOS IS RIGHT FOR ME?

OZONOS AC-I: For permanent use. In case of normal odour load and low bacterial, viral or germ load. Where? Allergy-friendly bedrooms, living rooms, smaller lounges, buses and motorhomes OZONOS AC-I PLUS: For quick and intensive cleaning. In case of intensive odours and high bacterial, viral or germ contamination. Where? Kitchens, offices, changing rooms, sales rooms, toilets, classrooms, doctor’s offices and waiting areas OZONOS AC-I PRO: For professional use. Where? Garbage rooms, industrial kitchens, workshops, ski boot rooms, drying rooms

WHAT CAN I USE OZONOS AGAINST?

OZONOS eliminates odours, aerosol fats, viruses, bacteria, mold spores and allergens. This makes it a versatile problem solver at home, at work and on the road.

Maintenance

DO YOU HAVE TO CHANGE A FILTER IN OZONOS PRODUCTS?

No, because OZONOS products do not use filters at all, so they are completely maintenance-free.

WHEN DO YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE UV-C LAMP?

The UV-C bulb usually lasts around 8,000 hours. After that, it becomes less effective and should be replaced. Assuming an average use of 8 hours a day, this will be no earlier than 3 years after purchase. You can purchase replacement bulbs in our shop. We always recommend that they be replaced by a specialist. However, an experienced DIYer will easily be able to replace the UV-C bulb. Please follow the operating instructions.

How can I change the UV-C lamp?

Option 1: You send us the Aircleaner and we replace the UV-Clamp. The cost is 49,- plus costs of the UV-C replacement lamp. Option 2: We will send you the UV-C lamp and you change the lamp. Instructions can be found in the download area. Generally, we recommend that you consult a specialist. Should you or third parties replace the replacement lamp, we must inform you that the warranty granted by us will expire.

Health

CAN THE LONG-TERM USE OF OZONOS AC-I LEAD TO IMMUNE DEFICIENCIES?

None of the studies conducted so far on ozone have shown any weakening of the immune system. Ozone is a natural gas and an essential part of natural oxygen production, which helps humans and animals to survive.

WHICH ALLERGENS ARE ELIMINATED BY OZONE?

The use of the OZONOS Aircleaner makes sense, especially for pollen or household dust allergies. Here the allergens, which are the cause and the cause of allergic reactions, are eliminated.

IS OZONE DANGEROUS?

Although ozone is a very strong oxidizing agent, it has only a short lifespan. Ozone does not have a negative effect on our health in natural concentrations. The ozone levels we encounter in everyday life are:

0,005 – 0,01 ppmForest Air
0,03 – 0,12 ppmTown Centre
0,003 – 0,015 ppmPerception of the smell
0,1 ppmThreshold limit value
1,0 ppmHuman tolerance limit

HOW AND AT WHAT CONCENTRATION DOES OZONE SMELL?

The characteristic odour associated with ozone can be smelt just after a thunderstorm or near photocopiers, printers or electric motors, as these all generate ozone. It is also often thought to smell like freshly laundered bed linen. The exact concentration depends on how sensitive you are. On average, however, you can smell it from 0.003 – 0.015 ppm. Ozone odour becomes unpleasant at 1.0 ppm, well before it reaches a toxic level.

CAN OZONOS ALSO ELIMIATE CORONAVIRUSES?

Yes! This has even been scientifically proven. This is why it is already used in numerous medical practices, hotels, restaurants, kindergartens, shops and public buildings. More information can be found in the Application section.

Operation and Assembly

WHERE SHOULD I PLACE THE OZONOS?

Ozone sinks downwards and bad air goes up. Therefore, you should place the OZONOS as high as possible. For maximum effectiveness, we recommend a height of at least 2m.

HOW LONG SHOULD THE OZONOS BE ON?

The OZONOS AC-I can be used around the clock. For the AC-I PLUS and AC-I PRO models, we must advise you to leave the room after 8 hours at the latest. Basically, however, you can rely on your senses when using OZONOS: If you can smell the ozone, it means that there are no more substances in the air with which it can react. The room is clean and the OZONOS can be turned off.

WHAT ARE THE NUMBERS ON THE OZONOS REMOTE CONTROL?

The new OZONOS remote control now has a timer function. The figures indicate the minutes after which the Aircleaner automatically switches off. The new remote controls can only be used with the corresponding new device. Please understand that we cannot replace older versions.
